China, Japan, South Korea, the Czech Republic, France, Germany and Australia seem the most atheist.

  • Marie likes to draw: Amazon launches kindle platform to SELL fanfiction

    marielikestodraw:

    dreamerserenade:

    marielikestodraw:

Amazon secured a deal with Warner on some franchises (Vampire Diaries, etc) that allows them to publish fanworks from said franchise (with massive restrictions, no porn, no graphic violence, etc), with low payment for authors (!!!) and massive percentage going back to Warner (!!!!!)

    Infos over

What…seriously, people are fighting authors getting paid for their work when the hard part—securing the copyright—is the HARD PART? Seriously? The trend I see happening if this works is that more secured copyright means more writers can use fanfiction (which they already do, by the way) to get noticed by major publishers for having a platform. Whoever tells you to fight this is a moron. Fanfiction can still be written, for free, and still enjoyed. If you want proof, go look at the legal fanfiction books of the Star Wars universe. Sometimes I cannot understand the complete ignorance people have of copyright and how utterly messy it is to get around.

    Are you kidding me.
Yeah I’m definitely a moron for saying that this is not ok and that it’s just a neat trick from studio execs to use non-profit derivative artwork done FOR FREE and turning it into a bizness where they will make the most money out of it?
Believe me, I work in an industry where copyright is problematic on many levels and I’m aware of it, but this, right there, is a trap. Simple and clear.
This is not how you get noticed to get published for your original work, not by being underpaid writing stuff that studio execs OWN and on which you have artistic rights. Nope.

So what do you suggest? Should the studio cut out a better slice for the authors or should this whole thing be called off?

Hey Pew, can you break this down into Dr. Who fans vs. Arrested Development fans for us, and see where the audiences overlap? Thanks.

Politicalprof: It appears I am not a core Tumblr demographic.

Sometimes I wish I could sit these actors down and buy them a beer and explain to them in firm but gentle tones that fangirls and fanboys are not as hysterical or ridiculous as they are so often played up to be.

I would tell them about this one artist who once designed a trueform…
